  4.                         Star Menu 5.0 New Features

  8.     UNREGISTERED VERSION:

  11.         * Due to widely growing use of Star Menu on a variety of different
  12.           computers, an extensive 12-computer test was done with IBM-XTs,
  13.           AT&T 6300s, a variety of laptops & notebooks, and a newer 486/66
  14.           & Pentium/66. This was done to correct as many machine-specific
  15.           "compatibility" bugs as possible. The following represents some
  16.           of the common bugs fixed:
  17.  
  18.           - Cursor key bug when simultaneously using the mouse, mostly
  19.             seen on older (slower) machines; includes both left/right
  20.             arrow keys & up/down arrow keys (menus & subdir/file selections).
  21.  
  22.           - DOS shell bug if "EXIT" command to return to Star Menu when
  23.             not in the Star Menu subdirectory.
  24.  
  25.       - Command Line Interface & replaceable parameter bug related
  26.             to the subdirectory problem above.
  27.  
  28.           - Program Launcher/Viewer bug after viewing non-ascii file.
  29.  
  30.           - CD-ROM, Removable Drive bug with program not found due to
  31.             wrong disk being used.
  32.  
  33.           - Hard Drive program not found bug (if file corrupted or deleted
  34.             after being set up onto menu).
  35.  
  36.           - Video-related bug found with some types of older CGA/EGA cards.
  37.  
  38.           - Minor cosmetic bugs which did not cause actual program errors.

  40.         * Many new program tweaks, enhancements, & cosmetic improvements.

  42.         * New DIGITAL CLOCK screen saver; use the Setup-Options section to
  43.           select different screen savers (Clock or Bouncing Slinkies, etc.).

  45.         * Help screens ("/" or "?" key) modified to show more information.

  47.         * Default Floppy Drive (Setup Section) now used in Backup/Restore
  48.           to set default target drive (can be changed in Options).

  51.         STAR MENU REGISTERED VERSION:

  54.     * New Multi-User capabilities; Main menu screen can be custom linked
  55.           to a specific user. For example, you may setup a "Basic" user to
  56.           see a limited "Applications Only" main menu screen after logging
  57.           on, whereas an "Advanced" user may be setup to see a detailed
  58.           "Apps & Programming" main menu screen. This is especially useful
  59.           when you are sharing your computer with your kids or with less-
  60.           experienced users. Use the CONFIG-USER section, and when either
  61.           adding or editing a user, the last entry will prompt for a main
  62.           menu screen.

  64.         * New "Restricted" user level added, does not allow EXIT to DOS
  65.           or access to any function keys; select user type "5" in the
  66.           CONFIG-USER-USER section.

  68.     * Basic user level revised to not allow EXIT to DOS as above.

  70.     * New MANUAL INSERT of programs capability in SETUP section; this
  71.           will bypass the "graphical selection" of the automatic Insert
  72.           function, similar to the Manual Add function. This is a big help
  73.           for REMOVABLE CD-ROM & REWRITABLE OPTICAL DRIVES!

  75.         * New UNZIP feature in Backup/Restore section! Decompress ZIP files
  76.           FROM any drive and/or subdir TO any drive and/or subdir; includes
  77.           graphical selection of an individual zip file (or all zip files).

  79.         * New UNLHA feature in Backup/Restore section! Decompress LZH files
  80.           FROM any drive and/or subdir TO any drive and/or subdir; includes
  81.           graphical selection of an individual lzh file (or all lzh files).

  83.     * New ALARM feature; if using the digital clock screen saver (above),
  84.           use the Setup-Options section to set an alarm. When the alarm time
  85.           is reached, the digits will turn red and an audible beeping will
  86.           be heard through the speaker.

  88.         * New PRINT Utility now included with the Run/View section! This
  89.           allows both normal & compressed printing of files as they are
  90.           being viewed.
